January is School Board Recognition month! Mapleton's five elected school board members volunteer their time and work tirelessly throughout the year on behalf of Mapleton's students and their families. School board members are the stewards of the School District's mission and vision.

Mapleton's Rising Stars honored at DU basketball game

Outstanding attitudes, achievements and contributions to the Mapleton community earned some students in Mapleton a seat at the University of Denver Men’s Basketball game on Thursday, December 29th. The University of Denver and Public Service Credit Union teamed up with Mapleton Public Schools to honor more than 500 students in grades K-6 as a part of the Rising Stars program. Each student received 15 tickets for friends and family to attend the game with them. |
Mapleton celebrates grand opening of addition and renovations at York International School

Close to 200 friends and family of Mapleton celebrated the grand opening of York International School and rededication of the Tony Rosa Courtyard. York students provided tours of the renovation and addition, showing guests the many improvements to their school made possible by the bond passed in November 2010. The renovations include new carpeting, tile, asbestos abatement, and the addition of a fire sprinkler. York’s 18,000 square-foot addition adds ten new high school classrooms, including two science classrooms outfitted for lab experiments. Watch a video of the grand opening! (For MAC click here) |

More than 375 Mapleton Public Schools high school students and Mapleton’s Citizen’s Construction Advisory Committee got to go behind the fence for an up close look at the two new buildings going up at Skyview Campus. - Adventure Elementary honored by CDE
Adventure Elementary received a 2011 Centers for Excellence Award from the Colorado Department of Education. The award is presented each year to schools that demonstrate high academic growth and outstanding student success in the face of significant challenges. Congratulations!
- Wolverine quarterback Sergio Lara honored
Mapleton Public Schools senior Sergio Lara was selected as the Brian Dawkins Athlete of the Week! Brian Dawkins, a Broncos safety, presents this award to high school athletes who demonstrate strong commitment to sports and academics, good character on and off the field, and have overcome adversity. Sergio, a quarterback for the Skyview Wolverines, led the team to a 7-3 record this season. As a part of the award, Sergio got tickets to watch the Broncos host the New England Patriots last Sunday and received pregame sideline passes. Congratulations!
- Mapleton Board of Education welcomes two new members
Mrs. Karen Hoopes and Mr. Ken Winslow were sworn in as official Board members during the regularly scheduled Board of Education meeting on Tuesday, November 22.
- Mapleton's Board of Education and Superintendent honored
The Mapleton Public Schools Board of Education and Superintendent Charlotte Ciancio were honored for outstanding leadership and professionalism. Mapleton's Board of Education was named the 2011 All State School Board by the Colorado Association of School Boards. Superintendent Charlotte Ciancio has been named 2012 Colorado Superintendent of the Year by the Colorado Association of School Executives (CASE). As Colorado’s Superintendent of the Year, Ciancio is eligible to become the National Superintendent of the Year. The national winner will be announced in February.
- Mapleton's CSAP scores UP at all grade levels!
2011 CSAP results show Mapleton students increased math and writing scores at nearly every grade level and all grades have better scores than they did five years ago! Third graders were up to 53% proficient or advanced in math – up from 41% in 2007. Third graders also showed big gains in reading, up from 45% to 58%! Freshman were 33% proficient in writing, up from 19% in 2007. Sophomores were 30% proficient in writing, up from 19% in 2007. Read the full Denver Post article here. - "Sink One" a Success at Mapleton
More than 200 people came out to "Sink One for Success" during Mapleton Day at Adventure Golf and Raceway in Westminster. The event, organized by the Mapleton Education Foundation, raised more than $7,000 for the Elaine T. Valente Opportunity Fund. Twenty-two local businesses and community members sponsored the event. - Grants Perk up Playgrounds in Mapleton
Grants are bringing safer places to play for students at several schools in the District. New ADA-friendly equipment and surfacing will be installed at Clayton Partnership, Mapleton's Toddlers Program, the Bertha Heid Campus, York International and Global Leadership Academy.
