H1N1 Vaccination Clinic
Tri County Health Department will be providing the H1N1 influenza vaccine on the following date:
Thursday, Dec. 10
4 p.m. – 8 p.m.
At Global Leadership Academy, 7480 Conifer Rd. Denver, CO 80221.
Children have been most affected by the disease and so they are a top priority for receiving the vaccine. Other groups who are considered a priority getting the vaccine, according to the Tri County Health Department, include pregnant women, young adults up to age 24, adults 25-64 who have chronic health problems (such as asthma and diabetes), and adults who take care of infants under 6 months of age (because infants are too young to receive the vaccine themselves.)
For questions or more information please visit the TCHD website www.tchd.org, or call 1-877-462-2911.

Mapleton Board of Education approved 2009 Bond and Mill Levy Override
In July, Mapleton Public Schools was awarded a $31.3 million matching grant from the State’s Building Excellent Schools Today (BEST) program – the largest grant award recommend by the BEST board. As a matching grant, the State is willing to pay 59 percent of building improvement costs if district taxpayers fund the other 41 percent. Mapleton is the only district in the Denver metro area to receive a BEST grant.
On Tuesday, Aug. 25, the Mapleton Board of Education decided to ask voters to approve a $30.2 million bond. That amount will fund the 41 percent District match and help refinance some of the District’s outstanding debt to obtain a better interest rate. By refinancing debt, the District will be able to free up more than $1 million in funds to go toward student programs, professional development and materials.
The District also will ask for a $1.9 million mill levy override. The mill levy override will be used to purchase updated textbooks, library books, science and math supplies, attract and retain quality teachers and instructional staff, and provide students with career preparation and college-level courses.

Week of District shutdown announced
Last year, the District agreed a week long shutdown would be the best way to save more than $2 million. This savings preserves student programs and helps the District overcome our current financial hardships.
On Tuesday, Aug. 11, the Mapleton Board of Education voted to close all schools in the District Dec. 16, 17, and 18, starting the holiday break for student three days earlier, and January 4 and 5, extending the holiday break by two extra days. Students will return to school on Monday, January 11.
These dates were determined to have the most cost-saving potential for the District, and the least amount of impact on student learning. The District will be closed to students, staff, and all extra curricular activities.
